I recently began a new job as an internal auditor with a large entertainment company. I knew going into it that I would find myself on the occasional airplane, usually headed to some international destination, to audit something or other. "What" really isn't as important as "where" and "how long" to me. First stop... York, Yorkshire, UK for a three week tour of duty. Then I'm back home for a whole week. Yippee! After that I'm off to beautiful Toronto for another three weeks. They're spoiling me after that trip because I'm going to get to stay home for a whole
two weeks after that one. Then, after my oh-so-brief two week stay at home, I once again hop on a plane and cross the ocean to Dublin, Ireland. Oh the places you'll go if you become an auditor. They told me the job was 30% travel; they just didn't tell me that it was all at once.
So here's the first step in my life of jet-setting: figuring out what to take. Some sort of electric plug adapters, of course. Toothpaste, since anyone who's seen Austin Powers knows that those crazy Brits don't believe in brushing their teeth. A camera, for those rare moments of free time (weekends) when I can actually go out and see the sights of England. Entertainment in the form of a little dvd player, some movies, and some games for my PSP. Fortunately one of the guys that I'll be there with is a huge movie fan, so if I don't have something I'm sure he'll be able to loan me one. Anything else? Anyone been to a foreign country before and have some ideas of what to take? The farthest I've been are the Bahamas and Mexico, and both of those are so tourist ridden that they're basically less refined versions of the US.
Anyway, check back often, or at least daily. I leave for York on August 6, and the goal is to at least post a little blurb every day. I'm not promising anything though. I'm told that I can expect 16 hour days, so I may be too tired to even think about blogging. That and I don't know if I'll be able to blog from my work computer and it's the only one I'm planning to take right now. I think I'll ask some of my coworkers if they plan on taking their own computers. Add that to the list.
